Description

Asaka Distillery is in Koriyama, Japan where you will also find Sasanokawa Shuzo, one of the oldest sake breweries in North Eastern Japan. In 1946 they obtained a license to distill whisky.

The distillery has only 2 copper pot stills, 5 washbacks, and 1 mash tun, so quite small.

Their whisky is fermented, distilled, and matured in Japan.

Taste

A very limited release. Aged 5 years and matured in Bourbon Barrels. This is batch # 1, Barrel 18041 & 18042. Bottled at 61% ABV, non-chill filtered and no color added.

Holly’s Tasting Notes: Pears, peaches, and apples with a lovely custard backbone. Some confectionary qualities are in there as well, like powdered sugar on fried dough. The palate is very juicy with some bright citrus zest as well. Charred apples, nutmeg, and a dash of bubblegum. The palate is much richer than the fruity nose. A great representation of ex-bourbon cask strength!
