The Water of Life is a fantastic documentary that focuses on the people who turned the stagnant whisky industry of the 1980’s into the force that we see today around the world. Greg Swartz, the Director of The Water of Life, joins Rascal + Thorn to collaborate for the fifth time on an unforgettable experience to both Spain to visit Sherry Bodegas and Cooperages and to Scotland for the third year of the Independent Spirits Festival.
As we journey with Greg around Spain and Edinburgh, we will see the whisky industry through the lens of a Director. On top of that, we are joined by the infamous David Brodie from Bunnahabhain, an expert in Sherry in his own right! This is an amazing trip with 5 nights in Spain and 3 in Scotland.
Bodega Visits
This week-long tour is filled with special bodega visits and experiences! We start in Madrid for one night before leaving to Jerez de la Frontera for 4 nights. In Jerez, we spend 4 days exploring the world of Sherry and how its casks influence some our favorite Scotch whiskies. We will also visit some cooperages. We then fly to Edinburgh from Seville for our last 3 nights where we attend tasting activities and the Independent Spirits Festival which will be run over two days.
We base ourselves in Madrid for one night, Jerez for 4 nights and Edinburgh for 3 nights.
Spanish Dining
The cuisine in Southern Spain is famous. And it’s a Rascal + Thorn Tour, so we will find the best places to eat.
This is a truly unique 8-night trip that explores two different cultures and how they work together to create some of the best whisky that we love.

Saturday, March 13 – Arrive to Madrid for a 1-night stay. Welcome group dinner.
Sunday, March 14 – Travel to Jerez and get settled in 4 nights.
Monday to Wednesday, March 15-17 – Bodega and Cooperage Visits
Thursday, March 18 – Fly to Edinburgh for 3 nights.
Friday – Sunday, March 19-21 – Whisky tastings and events in Edinburgh. Tour ends on Sunday morning.
