Description

Distilling in Wales was a lost art but in the late 1990s, a group of friends started chatting about a new distillery while sipping beers at a pub. The village of Penderyn was chosen because of the natural spring water and the first whisky was released in 2004. They have now expanded with a new distillery that was built in the Spring of 2021 in Llandudno North Wales and another distillery is planned for Swansea.

Taste

Icons of Wales No. 9 | Matured in Jamaican Rum & Ruby Port Casks

The Headliner is in honor of David Lloyd George, a former MP for Caernarfon Boroughs of Wales during the First World War. He put together the Immature Spirits Act of 1915, which had many new rules for whisky production to protect his citizens along with the introduction of the maturation in oak for 3 years and one day rule. Today, this is a globally recognized rule and has catapulted the Scotch & UK whisky industry into high regard over the past 100 years.

Brand Tasting Notes: The nose has red berries, strawberries, and cream, a hint of cranberries, light oak, and vanilla with nutmeg and cinnamon spice. The palate shows rich, sweet flavors of dried fruits, salted caramel, floral honey, and a spicy kick of black pepper. The finish has a sweetness that fades into a fruity, dry finish.

Holly’s Tasting Notes: Coconut water, strawberry, and banana runts, there is a peanut/peanut butter sweetness in there too. The palate has plums, apples, and peanuts with a chalky finish.
