Description

Murray McDavid was established by London wine merchants Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin, and Springbank Distillery’s Gordon Wright. They quickly gained a reputation for maturing whisky in interesting casks, especially in fine wine casks. In 2000, the Murray McDavid team set about reopening the closed Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay, engaging the services of Jim McEwan, an icon on Islay. In 2012, Remy Cointreau purchased Bruichladdich Distillery and Murray McDavid. Later, Murray McDavid was sold to its current owners. Today, the home of Murray McDavid is Coleburn Distillery in Speyside.

Taste

Based in Edinburgh, the North British Distillery is one of the largest producers of grain spirit in Scotland. Distilling mainly corn, the distillery creates a fresh, sweet spirit which is typically only seen in blended Scotch whisky. Bottled from four casks, #3306935 through 3306938. First matured in Bourbon hogsheads and then finished for a further 20 months in first-fill Murca Tawny Port casks. These Port casks came from the Duoro Valley. The nose has raspberry and cream, vanilla, and oak spice. The taste is floral, with pink peppercorns, and mixed berries. The finish has a hint of smoke and gentle sweet oak.
