Description
Murray McDavid was established by London wine merchants Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin, and Springbank Distillery’s Gordon Wright. They quickly gained a reputation for maturing whisky in interesting casks, especially in fine wine casks. In 2000, the Murray McDavid team set about reopening the closed Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay, engaging the services of Jim McEwan, an icon on Islay. In 2012, Remy Cointreau purchased Bruichladdich Distillery and Murray McDavid. Later, Murray McDavid was sold to its current owners. Today, the home of Murray McDavid is Coleburn Distillery in Speyside.
Taste
This is ‘Mull’s Finest’ mystery malt, meaning they can’t disclose the distillery. There is only one whisky distillery on Mull and that is Tobermory. Tobermory produces Tobermory unpeated whisky and heavily peated Ledaig. This is the heavily peated Ledaig. Mystery solved!
Distilled in 2014 | Bottled in 2023 | Finished in a Koval Bourbon Cask (Koval is an American Whiskey and spirits producer outside of Chicago) | This is a USA-exclusive
Brand Tasting Notes: The nose has smoky pineapples and coastal bonfires. The palate has fresh peat, salted fudge, and vanilla. The palate is sweet with an oily, mouthcoating smoke.
