Description

Murray McDavid was established by London wine merchants Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin, and Springbank Distillery’s Gordon Wright. They quickly gained a reputation for maturing whisky in interesting casks, especially in fine wine casks. In 2000, the Murray McDavid team set about reopening the closed Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay, engaging the services of Jim McEwan, an icon on Islay. In 2012, Remy Cointreau purchased Bruichladdich Distillery and Murray McDavid. Later, Murray McDavid was sold to its current owners. Today, the home of Murray McDavid is Coleburn Distillery in Speyside.

Taste

This is a part of the “Cask Craft” series which is new to the USA. This Linkwood, Speyside single malt was finished in a Madeira wine barrique from Justino’s Vineyard.

Brand Tasting Notes: Red currants, honied cereal, and milk chocolate leaving a long warming finish with sweet oak spice.

Holly’s Tasting Notes: Nutella, chocolate waffle cones with chocolate ice cream, raspberries, a well-integrated gritty palate with more dark chocolate, and a nice meaty quality.
