Description

Located about 40 minutes south of Glasgow, Lochlea is an independent, family-owned distillery in the heart of Ayrshire, Scotland. They grow 100% of all the barley they use for their whisky production. Originally a cattle farmer, the founder decided his fields would be better suited to make barley for whisky. Not just any whisky, his whisky! In 2021 they hired John Campbell from Laphroaig to be their head distiller. These are definitely new and exciting times not only for Lochlea but also for the Lowland region of Scotch Whisky in general.

Taste

Matured in a mixture of casks including first-fill Bourbon, Oloroso Sherry, and STR (shave, toasted, and re-charred) Rioja Red Wine casks.

Brand Tasting Notes: Pear syrup, fruit bon bons, warm cut grass, marmalade. On the palate, golden syrup, pepper, rye bread, macadamia nuts, and cream soda. The finish is long with orange beeswax.
