Description

Islay is a great place to make whisky if you were living in the 1800s. It’s remote but great water and barley. In 1815 Laphroaig was founded by brothers Alexander and Donald Johnston. Donald tragically died in 1847 after falling into a vat of hot pot ale at the distillery. It became famous in the early 1900s as it was released as a single malt. It has always been known to produce a heavily peated style.

Each year Laphroaig releases a limited edition bottling called Cairdeas. In Gaelic this means friendship.

Taste

Cairdeas 2025 | Matured in a mix of ex-Bourbon, European oak, and Oloroso sherry barrels, along with quarter casks

Brand Tasting Notes: Dramatic notes of peat and sea salt lead to a peppery palate with zesty lemon and lime and sweet caramel. A delicate spiciness follows with cumin, cloves, and ginger, arriving at a powerful phenolic burst and sweet citrus conclusion.
