Description
Rounagle whisky was created by Hughes Amesland. In 2009, he was hired to manage the Armagnac houses of Larresingle and Samalens, both of which had been purchased by a French company. During his 7 years as general manager, he began to find a true passion for the production side of Armagnac and spirits. He left in 2016 and purchased a property in the small village of Larroque-sur-l’Osse, just outside of Condom in the Tenareze appellation. He began producing Armagnac, but also started planting barley on his property. From this barley he made beer, but had extra barley. He brought it to Bercloux Distillery in the Cognac region, and his friend Philippe Laclie brewed and distilled his barley in a Stupfler still (a custom alembic pot still). Once distilled, he brought the new make spirit back to his property and matured it in new French oak. The name Rounagle comes from the stream that runs through his property.
Taste
Holly’s Tasting Notes: Apricots & figs galore! Spiced and canned peaches and cherries, followed by lovely oak and baking spices. Pastry dough as well. The palate is full of baked fruits, cinnamon pie crust, vanilla extract, and toffee pudding. A really nice fruit, spice, sweetness mix.
