Description
Bartels Whisky is a UK-based, family-run, independent Scotch-whisky bottler that specializes in single-cask, cask-strength, natural-color bottlings for its in-house label. While the business also acts as the UK outlet for the German-owned “Malts of Scotland” range, its own labels include the premium blended “His Excellency” and the single-malt-/single-cask label “Highland Laird”.
The Highland Laird label carries a deeper family connection: the name has been associated with the family business for over fifty years, and in 2014 Bartels revived the label as their dedicated single-cask bottling range. With each release under Highland Laird, Bartels hand-selects a cask (often from lesser-seen distilleries or unusual maturation stories), bottles it at cask strength and natural color, and presents it as a unique expression.

Dalmore Distillery is owned by Whyte & Mackay, also the owners of Jura Distillery on the Isle of Jura. Dalmore is rarely seen in independent bottlers and is held almost exclusively for their distillery releases. They are in the Highlands north of Inverness.
Brand Tasting Notes: The nose has cherries, sultanas wrapped in caramel, smoldering campfire peat, subtle brine, roasted nuts, and leather. The palate has dark chocolate, heavy charred, salty oak, and warming spicy sweetness. The finish has dried fruits, bitter cocoa, and fading campfire smoke.
Holly’s Tasting Notes: Cinnamon sugar crumble on top of apple cheesecake, more ripe apples, followed by pears, and white chocolate almond bark. The palate has a lovely chocolate sweetness, a dash of chai tea, oak spice, and a long finish of mulled apple cider.
