Description

Islay is a great place to make whisky if you were living in the 1800s. It’s remote but great water and barley. In 1815 Laphroaig was founded by brothers Alexander and Donald Johnston. Donald tragically died in 1847 after falling into a vat of hot pot ale at the distillery. It became famous in the early 1900s as it was released as a single malt. It has always been known to produce a heavily peated style.

Taste

Lore is a blend of whiskies aged from seven to 21 years in ex-Bourbon, European Oak, and Oloroso sherry barrels along with quarter casks.

Brand Tasting Notes: The nose has pungent peat smoke and seaside minerals with a hint of ash and chocolate. The palate is lively with hints of bitter chocolate, ash, and a spicy chilli bite.
