Description
The name Tri Carragh is a tribute to the Gaelic phrase meaning “three pillars,” honoring the essential ingredients of whisky: water, barley, and yeast. They are a young independent bottler based in Edinburgh under the parent company name of Stravaig Spirits. The founders are Ryan McCafferty and Ola Lopatowska. They also own the brand Glenlaird Scotch Whisky and help others source and bottle their own casks of whisky. Pronounced “tree-ka-rah”.
Taste
Distilled on August 4, 2011, this single malt spent over 11 years in an ex-bourbon cask before being reracked into a 1st Fill Pedro Ximénez Sherry Hogshead in July 2023 for a nine-month finishing period.
Tamnavulin is a Speyside distillery owned by Whyte & Mackay (Jura, Dalmore). Established in 1966, the distillery takes its name from the Gaelic phrase for “mill on the hill,” a nod to its picturesque location near the River Livet. Known for producing approachable yet complex malts, Tamnavulin pairs traditional craftsmanship with an innovative approach to cask finishing, ensuring its whiskies stand out as some of the region’s finest.
Brand Tasting Notes: On the nose, there is decadent chocolate ganache blended with the citric sweetness of lemon icing, while floral elements add a delicate, airy quality. Neat, the palate reveals light tannins and a peppery spice, balanced with the familiar taste of chocolate orange. With water, the whisky becomes creamier and sweeter, enhancing its rich, indulgent profile. There is a smooth, lingering finish with the perfect balance of sweet and spiced notes, leaving a lasting impression of chocolate and citrus.
