Description
The name Tri Carragh is a tribute to the Gaelic phrase meaning “three pillars,” honoring the essential ingredients of whisky: water, barley, and yeast. They are a young independent bottler based in Edinburgh under the parent company name of Stravaig Spirits. The founders are Ryan McCafferty and Ola Lopatowska. They also own the brand Glenlaird Scotch Whisky and help others source and bottle their own casks of whisky. Pronounced “tree-ka-rah”.
Taste
Distilled on October 6, 2011, this single malt spent over 10 years in a refill Bourbon cask before being reracked into a 1st Fill Pedro Ximénez Sherry Hogshead in March 2023 for a finishing period.
Linkwood is a classic Speyside distillery established in 1821 on the outskirts of Elgin. Most of its spirit is destined for blends, so single malt releases are typically seen through independents, which makes cask-led bottlings like this especially compelling.
Brand Tasting Notes: On the nose, opens with red berries and dark fruits, followed by vanilla and a creamy note, think vanilla scone with clotted cream and jam. The palate has dark redcurrants, figs, dates, nuts, and a subtle tannic grip. With water, vanilla steps forward and a delicate rosewater aroma appears. Reduced, the palate becomes juicier and more tropical. The finish is a soft caramel syrup.
