Description

Built in the late 1800s, Tamdhu Distillery is nestled on the banks of the River Spey, in the heart of Scotland’s famed Speyside whisky region. Originally owned by Edrington (the group behind Highland Park and Macallan), Tamdhu spent much of its early life producing whisky primarily for blends. The distillery experienced several closures and reopenings throughout the 20th century. In the late 1940s, Edrington brought it back online, transforming it into a key malting facility—mainly serving Glenrothes—though it still lacked a standalone identity. After some expansion in the 1970s, Tamdhu closed again in 2010. That same year, Ian Macleod Distillers (owners of Glengoyne) acquired the distillery from Edrington. Today, Tamdhu is forging its own path with single malt releases, known for being matured almost exclusively in ex-Sherry casks.
