From the distillery website: A remote village on the West Coast of Denmark, nine friends (a doctor, a chef, a butcher, a teacher, a helicopter pilot, and four engineers), two small pot stills, and an old butchery, and the brand was founded.
The founders of Stauning Whisky didn’t have much when they started out in 2005. Least of all, any knowledge of whisky-making, but they shared passion, curiosity, and the will to experiment and create. However, they had the land around them: The wind, the sea, the fields, the heather, and the peat. And some of Denmark’s finest water.
A Nordic whisky demon with Iberian blood flowing through its veins. Stauning El Clásico is a matured rye whisky that has additionally been aged in vermouth casks. Rye whisky and sweet vermouth have always made a strong line-up in the iconic cocktail Manhattan. We wanted to capture that magic in our rye whisky. So, we gave the mature whisky a finish on vermouth casks, and the experiment turned out more than successful: A warm-blooded whisky with a deep, amber color and a sweet aftertaste with a touch of bitter botanicals. Perfect for an exclusive cocktail or enjoyed as it is in the company of a premium cigar. The result is a warm and intense taste of newly-harvested grains with a spicy and bittersweet aftertaste. This blend is made out of malted rye and malted barley.
The nose is filled with the scent of apples, oranges, ripe plum, warm spices, cinnamon, and roasted caramel. The lips are met with a sweet and piercing kiss of dried fruits, citrus and crushed pepper.
