Description

Jacob Rieger & Company was founded in 1887 in Kansas City’s West Bottoms Livestock Exchange district. It offered over 100 alcohol products and took pride in maintaining hundreds of thousands with alcohol through a mail-order delivery service. In 1919 Prohibition was enacted and J. Rieger & Co. was a casualty. The distillery has now been brought back to life.

The dream of reopening the distillery came in 2010 by Kansas City bartender Ryan Maybee. He partnered with Chef Howard Hanna on a restaurant called “The Rieger” and one of the relatives of the original Rieger family attended the opening. This is where they discussed bringing the distillery back to life. In 2014 with help from Dave Pickerell, they brought the distillery back online.
