Description

Distilling in Wales was a lost art but in the late 1990s, a group of friends started chatting about a new distillery while sipping beers at a pub. The village of Penderyn was chosen because of the natural spring water and the first whisky was released in 2004. They have now expanded with a new distillery that was built in the Spring of 2021 in Llandudno North Wales and another distillery is planned for Swansea.

Taste

“Hiraeth” is a Cymraeg (Welsh) word pronounced Heer-eye-th. Meaning: a longing for your homeland, your heritage, and your very being.

This is the 8th release within the Icons of Wales Series from Penderyn. This is finished in ex-bourbon casks.

Brand Tasting Notes: Elegant and floral with light oak notes, vanilla, raisins, toffee apples, citrus peel, and a hint of lime. The palate is a delicate smooth single malt with honeyed fruits, vanilla, cinnamon spice, and a hint of nutmeg. The finish is soft honey and vanilla notes fade to a malty finish.

Holly’s Tasting Notes: Fresh banana yogurt and banana cream pie, red and green apples, and yellow raisins. The palate is creamier with pears, and lemon yogurt, with cream and silkiness to it.
