Description

The core range of Douglas Laing includes the Remarkable Regional Malts: The Epicurean (Lowland), Timorous Beastie (Highland), Scallywag (Speyside), The Gauldrons (Campbeltown), Rock Island (Islands), as well as Big Peat from Islay. They also bottle single casks such as the Old Particular and Xtra Old Particular bottlings.

Douglas Laing owns Strathearn in Perthshire which was acquired in 2019 and planning to build a new distillery in Glasgow.

Jura is an island that has always been sparsely populated with about 200 residents. It is right next to Islay where heavily peated malt whisky is produced at distilleries like Laphroaig and Lagavulin, although Jura is typically unpeated. The distillery opened in the 1960s and unpeated malt was much more fashionable than peated. It is now owned by Whyte & Mackay, the owners of Dalmore and Fettercairn. Although tricky to get to, it is a beautiful, rural island and this is the only distillery on it.

Taste

Refill Hogshead # DL16478 | Distilled January 2008, bottled September 2022

Brand Tasting Notes: The nose is polished wood that mingles with vanilla, toasted oak, and meringues. The palate is thick and rich with clotted cream, porridge, and the gentlest hint of spice. The finish is long with a touch of sea spray and a mineral quality balanced by brown sugar.
