Description
Old Carter Whiskey Co. is the passion project of beverage and hospitality veteran Mark Carter. He began his endeavors in the wine business, producing fine wines in Napa Valley under the Carter Cellars label and garnering exceptional scores from critics. He entered the whiskey world through a connection made traveling as the head of an innkeeper’s trade association, ultimately partnering with the son of a Kentucky friend to resurrect the long-dormant bourbon brand, Kentucky Owl. The brand achieved cult status and was sold in 2017, but by then Carter was hooked on the process of producing and blending whiskeys, so he started Old Carter Whiskey Co. to carry on his love affair with whiskey and the state of Kentucky.
Old Carter now bottles straight ryes, bourbons, and American whiskeys, either as single barrel releases or by selecting and blending small, distinct batches. Each of these batches is released at barrel strength with no chill filtering. Mark oversees all aspects of the business himself, from creating new blends and selecting single barrels to designing and handwriting each individual label per bottling. This labor of love continues to ensure exceptional spirits under the Old Carter name.
Taste
– Distilled in Indiana at an undisclosed distillery from a mash bill containing 95% rye
– Aged 9 years in new American oak barrels with a portion double barreled for 2.5 years
– Blend of 15 barrels
Brand Tasting Notes: Leads with classic rye spice and herbaceous character, layered with bright green apple and Earl Grey tea. The profile leans distinctly traditional in style, showcasing hallmark Indiana rye structure and grain-forward spice. It finishes dry and refreshing, lifted by crisp acidity that keeps the whiskey lively and inviting. A beautifully classic, spice-driven rye.
