Description
The Willett family has been in the whisky business for over 100 years. Their first distillery was built in 1936 on their family farm and this was just three years after the repeal of prohibition. They then began releasing different labels of Bourbon, the first brands being Johnny Drum and Old Bardstown. It was in the 1990s that the Small Batch Boutique Bourbon Collection was released with Rowan’s Creek, Noah’s Mill, Kentucky Vintage & Pure Kentucky. After some difficult times within the whiskey industry, the family finally was able to rebuild the distillery in 2012 and now release rye and Bourbon under their own Willett name.
Taste
Small batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon. Tasting notes from their website, written by Bill Thomas at Jack Rose Dining Saloon.
The nose is walnuts, prunes, and floral notes. The palate mimics the nose with walnuts, prunes, spices, intertwined with lavender and balanced with the perfect amount of acid, that leads you down a path of lingering burnt caramel.
