Description

Murray’s Fools Distilling Company was founded in 2015 by Sarah and Randall Beach. Named for Randall’s great-great-grandfather, the celebrated “Adirondack Murray” (W.H.H. Murray), the distillery draws its identity from the “Murray Rush”. This was in 1869 when thousands flocked to the Adirondacks inspired by his book Adventures in the Wilderness and were dubbed “Murray’s Fools” for their unpreparedness, yet perseverance in venturing into the wild.

Originally based in Altona, just a stone’s throw from Adirondack Park, the farm distillery quickly established itself as a producer of small-batch spirits like The Snowshoe vodka, La Pomme du Lac apple brandy, WolfJaw single malt whiskey, Osprey aquavit, and Guideboat gin.

In 2022, the couple expanded to a second location in Glenville, opening a 3,000–3,600 sq ft facility within the Hoffman’s Ferry campus. The new spot features a full distillery, tasting room, and event space, and further supports the local craft spirits scene with nearby cooperage and rickhouses. They are committed to sourcing at least 75% of their fruits and grains from New York State.
