Murray McDavid was established by London wine merchants Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin, and Springbank Distillery’s Gordon Wright. They quickly gained a reputation for maturing whisky in interesting casks, especially in fine wine casks. In 2000, the Murray McDavid team set about reopening the closed Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay, engaging the services of Jim McEwan, an icon on Islay. In 2012, Remy Cointreau purchased Bruichladdich Distillery and Murray McDavid. Later, Murray McDavid was sold to its current owners. Today, the home of Murray McDavid is Coleburn Distillery in Speyside.

Peatside is a vatting of single malts matured in American oak Bourbon barrels followed by freshly emptied Port and PX casks.
Peatside is a ‘tea-spooned malt’, 99.9% of one single malt blended with just a tiny drop of another although the origins are a secret. The initial maturation in a bourbon barrel gave a light sweetness to soften the peaty spirit. The Whisky Creations Team then split the ‘Peatside’ spirit into two different casks, one that had held port wine and the other, Pedro Ximénez Sherry. After nearly two years in the finishing casks, this unusual spirit has developed the perfect balance between smoke and oak.
