Description

Murray McDavid was established by London wine merchants Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin, and Springbank Distillery’s Gordon Wright. They quickly gained a reputation for maturing whisky in interesting casks, especially in fine wine casks. In 2000, the Murray McDavid team set about reopening the closed Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay, engaging the services of Jim McEwan, an icon on Islay. In 2012, Remy Cointreau purchased Bruichladdich Distillery and Murray McDavid. Later, Murray McDavid was sold to its current owners. Today, the home of Murray McDavid is Coleburn Distillery in Speyside.

Taste

This is a part of the “Cask Craft” series which is new to the USA. This Mannochmore, Speyside single malt was finished in a Tawny Port Barrique from Caves de Murca, Portugal.

Brand Tasting Notes: The rich heavy style of Mannochmore demands a cask finish equal to its bold nature. The Tawny Port tames the spirit creating a luxurious whisky full of chocolate, dried fruits, and a long, floral finish.

Holly’s Tasting Notes: Oranges, tangerines, chocolate, and vanilla wafers. The palate has more vanilla, cocoa powder, plums, and some syrup.
