Description

Murray McDavid was established by London wine merchants Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin, and Springbank Distillery’s Gordon Wright. They quickly gained a reputation for maturing whisky in interesting casks, especially in fine wine casks. In 2000, the Murray McDavid team set about reopening the closed Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay, engaging the services of Jim McEwan, an icon on Islay. In 2012, Remy Cointreau purchased Bruichladdich Distillery and Murray McDavid. Later, Murray McDavid was sold to its current owners. Today, the home of Murray McDavid is Coleburn Distillery in Speyside.

Taste

This is a part of the “Cask Craft” series which is new to the USA. This Croftengea, a peated Highland single malt was finished in a Marsala Wine Barrique from Sicily, Italy.

Brand Tasting Notes: The gently peated malt and the Italian wine cask combine to create sumptuous flavors of sweet hickory, honied cereal and barbequed tropical fruits. A long finish with elegant, sweet smoke.

Holly’s Tasting Notes: Granola, oatmeal, and sugar maple bacon. Everything you would have for breakfast! The palate shows more classic peat smoke with sweet baked fruits.
