Description
Murray McDavid was established by London wine merchants Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin, and Springbank Distillery’s Gordon Wright. They quickly gained a reputation for maturing whisky in interesting casks, especially in fine wine casks. In 2000, the Murray McDavid team set about reopening the closed Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay, engaging the services of Jim McEwan, an icon on Islay. In 2012, Remy Cointreau purchased Bruichladdich Distillery and Murray McDavid. Later, Murray McDavid was sold to its current owners. Today, the home of Murray McDavid is Coleburn Distillery in Speyside.
Taste
Distilled in 2014 | Cask 2100029
From the Brand: Caol Ila Distillery produces a powerful, smoky spirit. We tamed its vibrant, peated elixir by filling it into an opulent oak cask, previously used to mature Hungary’s famed dessert wine.
Brand Tasting Notes: The nose has BBQ apricot and smoky floral honey. The palate has grilled peach, tropical peated malt, and gentle orchard fruits, and warm embers.
Holly’s Tasting Notes: Figs, honeycomb, and lemon. The heavy peat is hidden by the sweet thickness from the wine. The palate is rich with hot honey, peat, soot, campfire embers, more hone and honey-drizzled beef jerky.
