Description
Hombo Shuzo, the company behind Mars Distillery, produces many different styles of alcohol, starting with shochu in the early 1900s. They really started producing whisky in 1949 with the help of Mr. Kiichiro Iwai, an icon in the Japanese Whisky world. Shinshu is the main distillery which is in the Nagano Alps and Japan’s highest whisky distillery. The second is the Tsunuki distillery in Kagoshima, an island in the south of Japan.
Taste
– Limited edition blended Japanese whisky produced by Mars Komagatake Distillery (fka Mars Shinshu) in Nagano, Japan
– 10th edition of the Mars “Lucky Cat” series dedicated to the distillery cats of Mars Komagatake
– Blend of malt and grain whiskies lightly peated
– Aged in ex-Pedro Ximenez sherry barrels and ex-port casks
Brand Tasting Notes: Aromas of vanilla, caramel, and raisin lead to a palate of stewed apricot, bittersweet chocolate, and ripe red berries
From the brand about the cats: Our favorite felines are back in the next iteration of Mars’s charming and popular Lucky Cat series. Honoring two cats we’ve previously seen grace a label (but never together), this “Double Individuals” blend features May, a twenty-year-old cat represented by rich sherry maturity, and Hana, nearly half May’s age, whose gregariousness is represented by elegant port wine influence. The two energies combine to create a lavish whisky evocative of cats napping peacefully in their favorite sun-splashed room.
