Description

Hombo Shuzo, the company behind Mars Distillery, produces many different styles of alcohol, starting with shochu in the early 1900s. They really started producing whisky in 1949 with the help of Mr. Kiichiro Iwai, an icon in the Japanese Whisky world. Shinshu is the main distillery which is in the Nagano Alps and Japan’s highest whisky distillery. The second is the Tsunuki distillery in Kagoshima, an island in the south of Japan.

Taste

Limited edition, annually released single malt Japanese whisky from Mars Komagatake Distillery (formerly known as Mars Shinshu) in Nagano, Japan

100% unpeated malted barley twice distilled in copper pot stills. Aged a minimum four years primarily in ex-bourbon barrels with some ex-sherry and unspecified wine casks; non-age statement

Tasting Notes: Aromas of bright apricot, banana, and orange zest lead to a palate of rich maple syrup, hazelnut, and persimmon jam with a touch of sherry on the finish.

Composed of four separate single malts aged at least four years at Mars’s Komagatake Distillery in the heart of the Japanese Alps, the 2024 edition of Komagatake Single Malt elegantly expresses the distillery’s signature fruity style, notably without the hint of peat seen in previous releases.
