Description

Lost Lantern is a pioneer of both American Whiskey & Independent Bottlers. Typically we see independent bottlers in Scotland bottling whisky from distilleries all over the country. This is a niche of the industry allowing them to showcase superb single malts and small batch blends that otherwise wouldn’t be available. This has never been commonplace in the USA, until now! They are truly an “American Independent Bottler” and source rare and special whiskies from all over the USA. Their goal is to shine a light on whiskies you may not have seen or tasted before through single casks and blends. They bottle American Single Malts, Bourbons, and Ryes.

Taste

Edition 2023 SHD-1

If mesquite is a new tradition, peat is the opposite: the oldest whiskey tradition there is, but one that’s quite new to the United States. This is a dark, smoky, and powerful blend of peated American single malts from Boulder in Colorado, McCarthy’s in Oregon, and Cedar Ridge in Iowa. All were smoked with Scottish peat (Highlands for Cedar Ridge and Boulder, Islay for McCarthy’s), but aged in varying U.S. climates with a mix of new and used oak.

Brand Tasting Notes: It has rich oak flavor, deep smoke, and notes of roasted blackberries and plums.

Holly’s Tasting Notes: Raspberry pie, warm milk chocolate, chocolate mousse. The palate shows me the smoke. It is so jammy and smoky, such a great mouthfeel. Blackberry jam and earthy smoke on the finish. A total berry dessert crumble. Delicious!
