Description

Lost Lantern is a Vermont-based independent bottler of American whiskey, founded by Nora Ganley-Roper and Adam Polonski. Inspired by the long tradition of Scotch independent bottlers, the two spent more than a year criss-crossing the United States—visiting distilleries, meeting craft distillers, and sourcing exceptional casks.

Since launching its first releases in late 2020, Lost Lantern has earned wide acclaim: in 2023, it was named Independent Bottler of the Year at the Global Icons of Whisky Awards. Based in Vergennes, Vermont, Lost Lantern bottles both single casks and small-batch blends from more than 30 distilleries across 20+ states, always emphasizing transparency about the origin, age, proof, and distillery source.

Taste

A single cask from Montgomery Distillery in Missoula, Montana. Closely tied to the Montgomery family’s 4th-generation farm in central Montana, from which it gets much of its grain, the distillery creates true grain-to-glass Montana spirits, many with an old world twist.

This wheated straight bourbon whiskey was made from 70% corn, 20% wheat, and 10% malted barley. Aged for 4 years in a 53-gallon barrel.

Brand Tasting Notes: it has warm, soft cinnamon and clove notes on the nose. The palate is soft and welcoming yet deep, with warm vanilla and milk chocolate notes. Complex, balanced, and very approachable.

Most whiskies we’ve done from high-elevation environments have been real barnstormers: high proof and intense. Yet they can also be balanced, as in this case, where a much lower proof at initial barreling led to a lower cask strength.
