Description
Lindores Abbey Distillery is a lowland malt located in the Northwest part of Fife in the town of Newburgh. The whisky part of the Lindores Abbey history starts in 1494 and owes its origins to the Tironensian monks that lived at Lindores Abbey, or the ‘Church by the Water’, over half a millennium ago. This was also the first recorded distillation of Whisky in Scotland with Brother John Cor, a Lindores monk, commissioned by King James IV to turn 8 bolls of malt into Aqua Vitae or “water of life”. In 2016 Drew McKenzie, the owner of the Abbey, broke ground for the distillery and actually found an old distillation vat.
Taste
This is a part of the ‘Casks of Lindores’ releases. The other two in this trio are a Wine matured and Sherry matured. This release is matured in Bourbon, Sherry, and Wine Barriques.
Brand Tasting Notes: The nose is elegant, and soft, with mellow vanilla and caramel notes playing with orchard fruits and sweet pear drops. Reminiscent of toffee apples! The palate is smooth with a creamy texture and a perfect balance of mellow vanilla, dried fruits, and citrus touches with a hint of spice.
