Description

Highland Park Distillery, located in Kirkwall on the Orkney Islands, traces its roots back to 1798 when Magnus Eunson, a church officer and smuggler, was caught operating an illicit still on the site. The distillery was officially licensed in 1826 under Robert Borwick, marking its transition into legal production. In 1895, James Grant of Glenlivet fame purchased Highland Park and expanded it, doubling its stills by 1898.

The distillery later became part of Highland Distillers in 1937 and, following industry mergers, joined the Edrington Group in 1999. Though long valued for blending, Highland Park began releasing single malts in the late 1970s, with the now-classic 12- and 18-year-old expressions arriving in the 1980s. Today, Highland Park is celebrated worldwide for its balanced, lightly peated style and Orcadian identity rooted in Norse heritage.
