In the late 1800s, the Mitchell family was at the helm of Springbank and Glengyle Distillery, a powerful whisky family in Campbeltown. One of the Mitchell brother’s sons started Glengyle right around this time. In 1925, after being sold, the distillery was closed. It wasn’t until 2000 that J&A Mitchell, then just owning Springbank and Cadenheads, bought the distillery and refurbished it to re-open 4 years later. The brand name, Glengyle, was owned by the owners of the Glen Scotia distillery so they named the brand itself, Kilkerran. Kilkerran is the whisky produced at Glengyle Distillery. The first release was in 2007.


This release is very, very lightly peated and matured in ex-bourbon and sherry casks.

Tasting Notes from the Brand: 
Nose: oak notes are dominant, followed by toasted marshmallows and dried fruit pudding, as well as cherries, marzipan, and a hint of peat.

Palate: Initially fruity with citrus notes and orange peel, after this: vanilla, butterscotch, honeycomb, and digestive biscuits can all be tasted and enjoyed.

Finish: Velvet and smooth with lemon meringue, to conclude, there’s an oiliness and a saltiness that you’d expect from a Campbeltown dram.
