Description

Glenglassaugh Distillery is on the Moray Firth Coast at the edge of Sandend Bay. You can find it up north, just west of Aberdeen overlooking the North Sea. It was founded in 1875 but was mothballed for over 20 years until production was restarted in 2008. The brand was then under the helm of Scotch icon Billy Walker who also owned GlenDronach and BenRiach. In 2017 he sold the three distilleries to American-based Brown-Forman (Woodford Reserve, Jack Daniels, etc.). At that time, they hired Rachel Barrie as their Master Blender. Since Dr. Barrie took over, she has re-created the core releases and in 2023, they were finally revealed. The new releases include: Sandend, 12YR and Portsoy (peated).

Taste

Named after the distilleries neighboring harbor village of Portsoy, this release is matured in Sherry, Bourbon, and Port casks and is heavily peated.

Brand Tasting Notes: The nose has rich maritime waves infused with tropical fruit and sherried dark soy, rolling into port with licorice and sea kelp. The palate is full-bodied with dark chocolate, fermented soy, and charred mango with treacle and a crack of sea salt.
