Description

Glenglassaugh Distillery is on the Moray Firth Coast at the edge of Sandend Bay. You can find it up north, just west of Aberdeen overlooking the North Sea. It was founded in 1875 but was mothballed for over 20 years until production was restarted in 2008. There are huge gaps in stock so really old Glenglassaugh or the current releases which are about a decade old. They typically produce unpeated whisky but a very limited quantity is heavily peated and that is where we get Torfa.

Taste

This Evolution release is unpeated and is created by maturing the whisky in first fill Tennessee whiskey barrels.
The nose is syrupy sweet barley, delicate pineapple, and waves of soft buttery vanilla. Deep oak spices and caramelized pear develop to warm the nose. The palate is robust with white pepper and oak, crisp green apple, freshly cracked barley, and a salted caramel edge of ripe banana and fruit salad. The finish has oak spices and soft fruits with vanilla.
