Description

Fukano Distillery has been making spirits in Japan since 1823. Shigeruriku Fukano is the fifth generation of his family to run the distillery, located in Hitoyoshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture of Japan, a few towns away from Ohishi Distillery and, consequently, the Kuma River supplies the water for both distilleries. Fukano bottles a variety of rice-based whisky expressions that have a minerality and texture we have come to know and love.

Taste

2,550 Bottles || The Fukano 2021 Edition is a combination of Red Wine casks and Manzanilla Sherry Casks.

The Red Wine casks add nice fruity overtones while the Manzanilla Sherry contributes a savory component to the whisky. As with most Koji Whiskies, Umami is present throughout.

Holly’s Tasting Notes: Nutty with a bit of earth, soot, and dirt presumably coming from the sherry casks. It is dry but rich at the same time with dehydrated berries, cocoa powders, and cashews. Very rich.
