Description
In August 1775, Alexander Hamilton’s Hearts of Oak militia orchestrated a daring raid on British forces in lower Manhattan. Under fire from the HMS Asia, they seized and repurposed the battery of British cannons, forming America’s first artillery company. Fort Hamilton Distillery’s historically inspired spirits from Alex Clark Spirits in Industry City, Brooklyn, are created in the spirit of that revolution. Surrounded by landmarks of the Revolutionary War, the distillery is named after Brooklyn’s Fort Hamilton, which in turn is named after Founding Father, Alexander Hamilton.
Established in 2016 by veteran bartender Alex Clark to address the lack of traditional, pre-prohibition, Northeast American style whiskey, Fort Hamilton Distillery celebrates America’s earliest style of whiskey: New York rye. Fort Hamilton Distillery honors this historical whiskey by producing it in accordance with the rye of the time–from New York-grown rye without corn in the mash bill.
Taste
Distilled from 100% New York-grown grain from a mash bill of 90% rye and 10% malted barley

This is a collaboration pick with America’s Turning Point Battles of Saratoga Non-Profit Organization. Their goal is to maintain and continue education about the Saratoga region. This is for the Battle of Saratoga’s 250th Anniversary, which will be in 2027. They are beginning the celebration this year and then continued over a 3-5 year period in what they call “Victory Season.” The first battle of Saratoga was on September 19th, 1777. We recommend heading over to the Saratoga Battlefield in Stillwater, go for a walk, and then come buy this bottle for a lovely Bourbon to sip at home! Visit their website for more information www.saratoga250.com.
Charles, and one of the Saratoga 250 Board Members, Vinnie, went down to Fort Hamilton Distillery in Brooklyn in September to pick this single barrel. They met with distillery owner Alex Clark to pick their favorite and bottle it for this project.
Holly’s Tasting Notes: Jelly beans, green apple, and blue raspberry Jolly Ranchers, cocoa, vanilla bean ice cream and powdered sugar. The palate has a lovely, sweet creaminess, with the spice hitting mid to late palate: butterscotch, oak spice, tobacco, and a hint of cigar smoke on the finish.
