Description

Duncan Taylor was originally based out of Glasgow where they were merchants and brokers of Scotch whisky casks. They have been laying down casks from distilleries all over Scotland for decades and now have one of the largest privately-held collections of rare and vintage Scotch Whisky.

Many distilleries have multiple origin stories because a lot of illicit distilling was going on back in the 1700 and 1800s and you better believe that was happening on a remote island in the North Sea like the Orkney Islands! The distillery is said to be founded by a priest turned smuggler and/or a farmer in 1798. It sits just outside of the main town of Kirkwall. The wind is so strong on these islands that the peat bogs here are filled with more coastal brush and heather, no trees.

Taste

Highland Park is the largest of the two distilleries on the Orkney Islands. Scapa is the second distillery. Highland Park is known for its light, floral peat smoke and one of the last distilleries in Scotland to maintain its own malting floor.
