The Shed Distillery was founded in 2014 in Drumshanbo, County Leitrim, by PJ and Denise Rigney, bringing whiskey distilling back to Connacht after over a century. The first spirit was laid down on the winter solstice of 2014, and the distillery quickly gained recognition for its innovative approach—combining traditional Irish grains with unusual botanicals. Their flagship products include Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin, infused with oriental botanicals, and the Drumshanbo Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey, crafted from malted and unmalted barley with Irish oats and matured in bourbon and sherry casks.
From just two employees at the start, The Shed has grown into a major local employer with over 100 jobs and has welcomed more than 150,000 visitors. Today, it stands as one of Ireland’s most distinctive modern distilleries—committed to community, sustainability, and expanding whiskey production with a recent €10 million investment to double capacity.

Brand Tasting Notes: The nose has rich notes of clove and honey that descend into sun-ripened fruit and toasty caramel. The palate has dried fruits, hazelnuts, and oak spice with wine notes. The finish has the sweetness of spiced caramel, roasted hazelnut, and raisin that lingers.
Holly’s Tasting Notes: Musty peaches, apples, raspberries, raspberry pie, dough, and mocha. The palate has crumbly apples with some pear. A bit of must, but a sweet must, malty and a long, chalky finish.
