Description

Del Bac American Single Malt is produced at Hamilton Distillers in Tucson, Arizona. Founded by Stephen Paul, a former furniture producer, and woodworker, he grew up with the native Mesquite in his home in the Sonoran Desert and thought that could be used to make a smokey, American Single Malt. In 2011 Stephen and his daughter started the distillery and focused on single malt.

Taste

Single barrel American single malt whiskey selected by the Skurnik Spirits Team and bottled exclusively for Skurnik Wines & Spirits (the distributors) by Hamilton Distillers. Omits the mesquite-smoking process signature to Del Bac’s other expressions, for those that don’t prefer a “peated” whiskey style

Aged in new medium char, medium toast 15-gallon American oak barrels

Tasting Notes from the Brand: The nose displays aromas of cinnamon, kola nut, and sarsaparilla; the palate is full-bodied and bombastic, showing notes of butterscotch candy and clover honey with a spicy, red chili pepper finish.

Holly’s Tasting Notes: An explosion of chocolate and orange on the nose. Blood orange fruit punch and some nutmeg & cinnamon in there too. The palate has more wine influence with rich oak spice, extremely ripe plums, and more creamy milk chocolate. The baking spice and oak spice finish linger for quite some time. I see the red pepper honey comment that the brand has as well.

“Barrel #1999 is a one-of-a-kind, non-smoked single malt that demands your full attention. This flavorful whiskey is immensely powerful, but at the same time, has so many sweet nothings it is dying to whisper into your ear. I have had few expressions of American single malt that moved me quite as this bottle does—it’s simply impressive. I know there isn’t a lot to go around, but I really wish I could share this with everyone. Or just keep it all for myself…” –Jake Cahill, Skurnik Spirits Specialist & Educator
