Description

Pennsylvania Rye Whiskey is truly America’s original whiskey. In the 18th century, many Pennsylvania farmers were using their surplus rye grain to distill homemade whiskey. Dad’s Hat is resurrecting this original, American style of whiskey right where it began. One of the founders, Herman Mihalich’s, grew up above his family’s tavern in Monessen, PA. Both his father and grandfather were fond of the all-American spirit. Inspired by a 2006 story about the re-emergence of rye, Mihalich, along with his friend John Cooper, would later go on to found Mountain Laurel Spirits (Dad’s Hat) in 2011 in Bristol becoming the first Pennsylvania distillery to make rye whiskey since 1990.

Brand Tasting Notes: Cherry, walnuts, clove, and spice.

Holly’s Tasting Notes: Grassy, sweet oats, and a super greasy palate. Very rich, motor oil and an herbal, mint finish. Pair this with dehydrated canteloupe, trust me!
