Description
Craigellachie is a Speyside Distillery founded in 1891. Pronounced craig-ella-key, this distillery is in the village of Craigellachie. Alexander Edward and Peter Mackie were the founders of the distillery and both came from impressive grain and distillery backgrounds. Although a “Speyside” malt which is known to be fruity and sweet, Craigellachie is a nod to the past. They are the last distillery to burn oil underneath their barley during the malting process and utilize worm tub condensers. This is a fruity malt but with a nice punch to it. Some even say “burnt pineapple”.
Taste
This is the classic Craigellachie 13-Year-Old expression that has been finished in Bas-Armagnac barrels. They chose Armagnac because this is also a spirit that is distilled using worm-tub condensers.
Brand Tasting Notes: Baked apples dusted with cinnamon and notes of caramel shortcake are offset by the signature syrupy pineapples and fiery bonfire night aromas. A contradiction in a glass.
