Description
Established in 2012, Black Button Distilling was Rochester’s first grain-to-glass distillery since prohibition. Jason Barrett, the founder and head distiller, comes from a family that manufactured buttons, hence the name Black Button. It is called a black button because Jason is color blind. They have drastically increased their production capacity in the last few years and are now not only making whiskey for their own brands but also contract distilling. They are still located in downtown Rochester, New York.
Taste
Mashbill of 60% Corn, 20% Wheat, 9% Rye, 11% Malted Barley
Brand Tasting Notes: Bold stone fruit and cherry notes with oak, light leather, and tobacco. Full-bodied, rich sweetness with caramelized sugar and citrus peel leading to spice. Warming peppercorn spice with dry notes of old oak at the finish.
Holly’s Tasting Notes: The nose has caramel and chocolate cream, cappuccino, and Werther’s candies. The palate has chocolate cake with vanilla frosting, more candied chocolates. Almost reminded me of Tennessee Whiskey.
