Description
The name Adelphi traces its origins back to 1825 when the Adelphi Distillery was built in Glasgow. Its name was eventually changed to Loch Katrine Adelphi in the late 1870s. The distillery would be sold and eventually stop all production in the early 1900s. It was revived in 1993 by Jamie Walker who used the site as an independent bottling facility. He would eventually sell it on to the current owners, Keith Falconer and Donald Houston in 2004. Adelphi Selections is one of the most sought-after independent bottlers.
In 2014, Keith and Donald built and opened Ardnamurchan Distillery on the west coast of Scotland.
Taste
Cask No. 13 | Refill Oloroso Sherry Butt | Unpeated
Ben Nevis Distillery is in the Highlands right at the foot of Ben Nevis Mountain. Owned by the Japanese whisky producer Nikka (Miyagikyo & Yoichi). Ben Nevis is known to be a heavier, dare we say “funkier” malt making peated and unpeated whisky.
Brand Tasting Notes: The nose has lacquered wood, undusted library, Fig Newtons, date bread, molasses, over-baked pumpkin pie, not quite-ripe cherries, orange fruit pastilles, oatmeal with brown sugar and raisins, and candied walnuts. The palate has black forest cake, leather armchair, dark chocolate truffle, pecan pie, brandied eggnog with nutmeg shaved on top, and candied lemon. The finish is decadent; long, but spicy and dry.
