Nulu Toasted Rye Single Barrel Pick – How & Why

Published January 20, 2022

Prohibition Craft Distillery is a Louisville-based distillery that owns the NULU brand. Nulu is an area of Louisville that is definitely up-and-coming with restaurants, bars and shops. It makes sense to find this small, unique distillery nestled right in the middle. They have access to some really great barrels from MGP in Indiana. Older stock that is very difficult to get your hands on these days. So when we had the opportunity to get our own NULU Toasted Rye barrel, I was quite excited. Toasted expressions are the hot item these days and I have always been a big fan of Michter’s Toasted Rye.

On my second Rascal + Thorn Kentucky Bourbon Trail Tour last Fall, I was able to pick this barrel with my group. They only had three toasted rye barrels to pick from at the time as they are quite rare with this age statement. One sample really stood out to me and the rest of the group was about 50/50 on two of the samples. So I needed to bring these back to Saratoga Springs to have Holly give the final approval on the barrel that I really enjoyed. It’s quite unique with its flavor profile as there are a lot of “Bourbon” notes because of the toast. We hope you enjoy it!
